Skull Tutorial

March 24, 2016

You can never go wrong by choosing a skull design to look super creepy. There are so many options when it comes to skulls. I like to change up the traditional skull design from time to time to shake things up a bit and get those creative juices flowing. So let’s begin!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Paradise White

  2. Paradise Black

  3. Diamond FX Sponge

  4. Always Wicked Art Butterfly Sponge

  5. #4 Round Brush

  6. Medium Filbert Brush

    Application

Begin by loading your Diamond FX sponge with Paradise White. Sponge the entire face avoiding the eyes.

Load your Always Wicked Art Butterfly sponge with your Paradise Black and begin filling in the eye cavities.

Using the same sponge loaded with black, shade the outside edges, forehead and cheeks. Quickly sponge the nose. This will give you a guide as you continue the design

Load your #4 round brush with Paradise black. Starting at the eyes, use thick to thin strokes leading up to the top up the skull and down toward the bottom.

Continue using this method until the entire design is covered. Do not spend too much time on this step because we will be blending in the next step.

Load your medium filbert brush with paradise white. Using up and down strokes, gently blend the black lines into the design. You will still want to see some of the lines peeking through the white.

Load your #4 round brush with Paradise black and start adding new thick to thin strokes in the same fashion as before. Give a quick load of Paradise white to your #4 brush to add a few highlights,  followed by a final outline of black to complete your design.

Creating skull designs can be a lot of fun. Try to think outside of the box to expand your skills. As always, I hope you enjoy creating this design.
